The Sea Kayak fleet had an enjoyable trip to the NC coast in April sponsored by Dave Ellis, Jim Heichelbech and Linda Decker. Ten paddlers had a week of blue skies and sunshine and were able to paddle every day!
We were fortunate that our timing for tidal changes was on point, making our trips easier. Our trips included:
- Scouting trip to Higgins Island
- Carrot Island where we saw wild horses roaming the island while we had lunch on a sand dune
- A trip from Cedar Point to Bear Island. We had to walk a few sandbars but had a great view of the dunes and ocean from high on dune.
- A favorite was a crossing out to Cape Lookout, one of the first lighthouses on the outer banks coast.
- We paddled a nearby river, White Oak that was beautiful with spring growth.
- A second trip to the south end of Bear Island, this time launching from Shell Rock
- Our last day some of the group went back to White Oak Rive and others did a bike tour of Emerald Isle.
Of course in the evenings we gathered to plan the next day, socialize and went out to eat local seafood a couple of times.
