Formerly known as the Flatwater Fleet, this is the group that includes the widest variety of paddle craft. On our trips, you may see canoes, kayaks (sit-in or sit on top), and even stand-up paddle boards (SUP) of all shapes and sizes. Everyone is welcome, with the caveat that trip leaders may set limitations on some trips for safety reasons. We may paddle quiet lakes and streams, with water up to Class I or II.
Abbreviated CK on the club calendar, the Fleet is a great place for experienced paddlers, those new to paddling, families, and anyone interested in enjoying nature and camaraderie on the lakes, streams, and rivers in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and other states. Trips vary from short (about 3 hours), to long (6-8 hours), and even multi-day camping trips.
The fleet will be planning our calendar at the Club planning meeting in January. If you have trips you would like for us to consider, please let us know before the meeting. If you are interested in becoming a trip leader, please email or call us.
We will also have at least one tandem canoe class this year, and hope to add a solo canoe class. As always, the Club will offer Level 1 and 2 kayak classes, as well as swift water and open water rescue classes.
The Club continues to hold training sessions at the Thatcher Park Pool on Saturdays from 10 am-Noon through the winter. It is a great place to practice wet exits, canoe or kayak re-entry, or to learn to roll kayaks or whitewater canoes.
If you are interested in the, or are new to the Club and don't know how to get started, please email or call one of us. If you don't have a boat, we often can find a member willing to share a boat, or loan one so you can get on the water safely.
See you on the water!
