Sugar Creek trip report June 15, 2024 – trip sponsor Judy Thompson

12 paddlers took part in this trip from west of Crawfordsville to Deer’s Mill, a distance of about 12 miles.  It was a beautiful sunny day, with a high in the mid-80s, and a light breeze.  The water was a little lower than ideal at 3.82 feet and 191 cfs, but proved to be adequate.  There was only one spot where just about everyone got hung in the shallows, and most were able to push on through without getting out of their boats.  Despite the lower level, there was still a good current.  The clear water let us view the interesting rocky creek bottom topography, and spot many fish.  We spotted duck families along the way, and one immature bald eagle.  There were a few other paddlers along this stretch, but not many (and one hovercraft!).  Many thanks to Jeff Stejskal for guiding our way to where there was the most flow and fewest obstacles.
