C & K Trip: West Fork of the White River: Anderson to Perkinsville Trip Leader: Mariann Davis
Trip Report: After a failed 2023 attempt to paddle this section, due to low water, the HCKC was finally able to launch. A rain delay pushed the paddle from June 1 to June 2. This provided the needed water level of 280-300 cfs—amount of flow needed for a safe moving water experience with many riffles and low wave train sections. There were no unavoidable strainers and the moving water in various sections delighted the 9 paddlers.
The wild life that greeted us along the way were a couple of herons, an eagle, many turtles and a few more unidentifiable birds. The scenery was lush with a canopy of trees shading us for many of the 14.5 mile paddle. The 4.5 hour paddle revealed the endurance and willingness of the members to to sally forward in the pursuit of a memorable paddle trip. Given the availability of a few beaches at this level, the paddlers we able to replenish their energy with a lunch break after 6.5 miles.
This trip will definitely be on the calendar next year.
