This trip will take place the Saturday of the 40th Annual National Paddling Film Festival (NPFF) and 14th Annual  Jess Cup down river race on the Elkhorn.  Unlike the Green Race or Lord of Forks which are Class V races this one take place on  Class II+ Elkhorn Creek.  The plan is to put-in before race starts and watch from the Lunch Stop Rapid.  

Only a three-hour drive from Indy this trip is a must for new boaters to get your feet wet and a good way for shake off the rust for experienced boaters. The Jim Beam Distillery dam has been removed.   The length of the paddle is about 7 miles.

Lots of dynamic play spots and wide enough to generally stays free of strainers, the Elkhorn has a large watershed allowing it typically to keep its flow longer.  

This early season paddle so the water and air temperature will be cold.  Dress for the swim.  Plan on wearing neoprene, dry suits, dry tops etc.  Along with proper layering (poly/wool) no cotton. 

Required Equipment:  Helmet, Spray Skirt, Paddle, PFD, Dry suit/Wetsuit and Whitewater boat.

Required Skill:  Be able to perform a wet exit with a spray skirt.

Formal trip details will be sent out to the registrants before the event.   The general plan is meet in Frankfort, KY and caravan down to the Put-in.
