Sometimes, the weather does its own thing and the Ohio River Overnight was one wet trip.    We paddled 18 miles on Saturday and 7.5 miles on Sunday.   Pictures from the trip are at:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/merlin3d/albums/72157698543347392

On Saturday, we headed north on the Ohio and turned right into 14-Mile creek which was higher than usual.   It was so high that we were able to take it almost 6 miles up to the IN 62 bridge – the first time that we had ever got that high before being blocked by downed trees or low water.

After getting back to the Ohio, we headed North on the Ohio River past the former Rose Island Amusement Park – you can hike to the Rose Island site from Charlestown S.P..   Steamboats used to take people from Louisville to the park.    There was a hotel, swimming pool, and rides here until it was closed 1937.

The Ohio is interesting because it is really wide - a definite big water feel.   We paddled another mile or 2 upstreem before we turned around.   Judy exited atthe ramp for the State Park while Andy and I continued downstream and camped on 12 Mile Island for the night.

12 Mile Island is interesting because it has stairs down to the river, a camp areathat is regularly mowed, and they have portapotties.   A great place to camp while on the river as well as great sunrise.    It happened to rain Saturday night but no big deal since we had the area to ourselves and could cook under their pavilon.

Sunday Morning, we paddled south with the wind and current at our backs down to the new I65 Bypass east of Louisville.   An interesting bridge that we were able to watch be constructed on our annual trips to the Ohio.   The trip upstream to Charlestown S.P. was a bit of slog since we were paddling into the wind and current.

    A fun weekend.
