UPCOMING CANOE & KAYAK TRIP:
Grayson Lake, KY, Oct. 31-Nov. 2
Grayson Lake has some amazing cliff lined sections and is a beautiful place to paddle. This trip is for both Canoe & Kayak and Sea Kayak, although we will travel a little slower than a typical SK trip. This is a lake paddle, so all should be prepared for a paddle and not a float, since there is next to no current.

HCKC Non-Trip Report

Qajaq TC, August 21 - 25, 2025
We had twenty-two HCKC members that participated in Qajaq TC (Training Camp). QTC (Qajaq TC) is an official Qajaq USA event that’s held each year in mid to late August. It takes place at Camp Lookout, near Frankfort, Michigan.
QTC is a Greenland skills focused event, with on-water mentoring for rolling, rescues, bracing, edging, strokes, Greenland ropes, and surfing (when conditions are available). With only around sixty attendees and a very high mentor-to-student ratio, coaching is flexible and focused on helping everyone succeed.
This year we were lucky enough to have some decent surfing conditions on Saturday. Several folks headed out to Lake Michigan for surfing and rough water play.

This is a great camp to build your skills and make new friends. Mark your calendars! The dates for QTC 2026 are August 27 - 30. I’d highly encourage everyone to check it out.
Here’s a picture of the HCKC participants. Dubside (guy in black) is an honorary HCKC member. Not shown in picture is HCKC member Mike Carey.

Swiftwater Rescue Course 13 - 14 Sept. 2025 in South Bend IN L2-L4 A very good course for everyone that paddles moving water to whitewater. John Gates along with fellow instructor James and very capable helpers had a highly successful class, enabling participants to hone rescue skills and learn new ones.
