April 2024 HCKC Newsletter

If you've not been on the water yet this year, you are missing out. We are convinced there is no better way to relax and let the stress of life melt away than to be on the water with a paddle in your hand.

Our mantra this year is Paddle More In '24! Paddling more begins with signing up for trips or training, and getting curious by exploring the different water ways. Start with inquiring about upcoming trips by contacting the trip sponsor. Get engaged in the Hoosier Canoe and Kayak Club Facebook Group. Or get involved with the club as a volunteer. Whatever you do, don't let the summer fly by and not get on the water.

SKIPPER'S NOTE

Reminder: Don't Paddle Alone & Take Training

Last week 2 kayakers capsized on the White River in Indianapolis and haven't been found as of this writing. It's a reminder to all of us about the importance of taking advantage of the training the club offers, practice at the pool sessions, and never paddle alone.

PAST TRIPS

HCKC Members Shared A Once In A Lifetime Experience Together

Eight paddlers headed out to Summit Lake to view the solar eclipse from the water. After hiking, picnicking and viewing a flock of migrating white pelicans, we found a perfect place to view the eclipse.

As the moon moved across the pathway of the sun, everything grew quiet. The sky slowly darkened and we were awestruck by this incredible event.

After the eclipse, we gathered for pizza to get to know our new participants and to celebrate a special spring day on the water.
