Happy fall fellow paddlers! Well, we messed up in August and missed sending out the newsletter. But, we are back at this month. As we welcome September, it's time to reflect on the incredible community we've built on the water and get excited for what's coming. Mark your calendars for our Annual Gathering on November 10th—it's going to be a blast! We’ll also be celebrating two legendary members with memorial paddles, honoring their lasting impact on the club. We have a memorial paddles for Shirley Gates and Jordan Ross in the coming weeks. And let’s not forget, we need to pass the paddle (ha ha, get it?) to the next generation! So, if you are interested in getting involved in the club please reach out to us. The Water Is Calling - Lets Go!

Sept 27 - 29: Patoka Lake
Lake Patoka is the second largest lake in Indiana with about 8,800 acres of water and over 160 miles of shoreline. Hoosier National Forest surrounds the lake with rolling tree-covered hills and rock outcroppings. There are headwaters to explore as well as sections where the lake starts feeling like big water.
Since it is a fairly long drive to get to Patoka, we will camp overnight at Fisherman’s Camp on Friday and Saturday nights and paddle both Saturday and Sunday. This campsite is located near a limited speed section of the lake which is more kayak-friendly. There is also a modern campground available for those that prefer to use that instead. Get all the details on the events calendar.

START LEARNING EARLY AND NEVER QUIT
Over the years, I've had the privilege of teaching hundreds of paddlers, sharing not only the skills and techniques but also the joy that paddling brings.
Teaching paddling has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I am deeply grateful for every moment.
Now is a great time for others to step forward to become an instructor. The certification process will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to guide others safely on their paddling adventures.
It's more than just teaching a skill; it's about fostering a love for the hobby, building a community, and making lifelong memories. There's a unique satisfaction in seeing someone advance in a sport we all love, knowing you played a part in their journey.

JULY 13: EAST FORK WHITE RIVER Trip Sponsor Richard Tekulve led 16 paddlers on this 12.5-mile trip. Put in was at the historic Medora Covered Bridge. While the East Fork generally has adequate flow even in otherwise dry conditions, there was a good bump up in the river level from rain the previous week. No real hazards except for trees in the river. One person did inadvertently get too close to one of these trees, and went for a surprise swim. Thanks, Ellen P., for the successful efforts to get the unfortunate paddler to a place of safety, and retrieve the kayak from the sunken tree. Check our Trip Reports!
